Ursprünglich handelt es sich hierbei um eine jakobitische Melodie der Highland-Anhänger von Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Lyrics

Come boat me over come ferry me home. Come boat me over to Charlie. I´ll give John Ross another bawbee. To ferry me over to Charlie.

We over the water, we over the sea. We over the water to Charlie. Come weel, come woe. We´ll gather and go. And live and die with Charlie.

It's well I love my Charlie´s name. Although there are lot of us that hate him. But O tae see Auld Nick gaun hame. And Charlie's face afore him.

We over the water, we over the sea. We over the water to Charlie. Come weel, come woe. Come gather and go. And I´d live and die for Charlie.

I swear by the moon and the stars above. And I swear by the sun so dearly. If I had ten thousand lifes. I give them all to Charlie.

We over the water, we over the sea. We over the water with Charlie. If I had ten thousand lifes. I give them all to Charlie.
